Imam Abu Hanifa’s Authentic dream of collecting Prophet’s Bones

Blessed dream of Imam Abu Hanifa r.a in which he saw himself collecting bones of Prophet Muhammad salllallaho aleh wasallam –

This article will be on researching narrations’ chains completely in light of Usool Jarh wa Tadeel. and proving that this dream actually meant something and Imam Al Adham Abu Hanifa r.a ALHUMDULILLAH accomplished it beautifully! All Jarrahs on him are discarded.  I have not provided scan pages mostly, but if someone needs them just comment and i will give it to you. Jazak Allah Khayra.

“There remains nothing from prophethood except mubashshiraat (glad tidings),” He was asked ,
“What are mubashshiraat ?” He replied, “Good dreams.”(Bukhari)

I always wanted to write about his blessed dream, where he saw himself digging the grave of Prophet Muhammad sallallaho aleh wasallam and collecting the Bones(Sunnahs). I dont want to get too much into the dream interpretation, but those who have studied Science of Jarh wa Tadeel, would know that digging here could mean “extensively looking into all sunnahs and traditions reported by narrators”, why, you may ask? the reason i have stated students of jarh wa tadeel is because they know, how tough it is to separate sahih from weak or authentic from forged, this literally requires 10s of years of experience and outstanding/unbelievable memory! and ALHUMDULILLAH! the greatest of the Imam in FIQH, done his job flawlessly. Subhan Allah!

Actually we all know dreams are not taken literally and they have meanings and there’s a whole ‘Ilm to explain it known as Islamic Dream interpretations. This dream is also will not be taken literally because we muslims hold the belief that All Anbiya alaihumussalam/Martyred/Waliullah are alive in their graves, so digging the grave would mean extensively looking for the sunnahs and the other part, collecting the bones would mean reviving the sunnah & separating truth from Lies!

Dream

Translation: Shu‘ayb ibn Ayyub al-Sarifini said, Abu Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, ‘I heard Abu Hanifah say, “I saw a dream that scared me. I saw I was digging up the grave of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). I came to Basrah and ordered a man to ask Muhammad ibn Sirin and he asked him. He said, ‘This man shall uncover the hadiths of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).’”’

Reported with different wordings like:

(Al Inteqaa : Safa 145 chain weak)

Chain of narration:

Imam Abubakr Khateeb al Baghdadi Rh. — > Qazi Abubakr Muhammed bin umar Rh. — > Ubaidullah bin Ahmed bin Yaqub al Muqri Rh. — > Muhammed bin Muhammed bin Sulaimaan al Baaghandi Rh. — > Shoaib bin Ayub Rh. –> Abu Yahiya al Yamaani Rh. — > Imam Abu hanifa Rh.

(Taarekh e Baghdad : vol13 : page 338)

Tawtheeq of the Narrators of chain given above:

1. Khateeb Baghdadi : THIQA Taarekh ul Islaam : vol10 : page 175

2. Qazi Abu bakr Muhammed bin Umar : THIQA Taarekh ul Islaam : vol9 : page 465

3. Ubaidullah bin Ahmed bin Yaqub al Muqri : THIQA Taarekh ul Islaam : vol8 : page426-427

4. Abu Abdullah Muhammed bin Muhammed al Baaghandi : MQABOOL(details below)

5. Shoaib bin Ayub al Waasti : SADOOQ Taqreeb : number 2794

6. Abu Yahiya al Yamaani is a narrator of sahih muslim & bukhari Taqreeb : number 3771

7. Imam Abu Hanifa he doesnt need any clarifications call him thiqa, thabt, shahnshah any high praise Ta’deel word you want.

Ikhmaal Fee Tehzeeb ul Kamaal Lil Mughtaayi : vol12  : page 56, Taqreeb : number 7153, Taarekh e Baghdaad : vol 13 : page 344

Note:Two thiqa narrators have narrated from Abu Abdullah Muhammed bin Muhammed al Baaghandi therefore raising him to the status of Maqbool from Majhool(Usool Jarh wa tadeel) 1. narrator is in this same chain i.e ubaidullah bin ahmad(thiqa) and the 2nd one is Imam Muhammed Ibn ul Muzaffar  379Hij. Thiqa, Imam, Sadooq (Taarekh ul Islaam : vol8 : page 472

Imam ibn abdul barr r.a mentions regarding a specific narrator:

3 or two people have narrated from him so he is NOT MAJHOOL. Al Estazkaar : Jild 1 : Safa 180

Imam Abu Jafar says:

when two people narrate from person A then A is not MAJHOOL any more. ref:An Naasikh wal Mansookh. I will make a separate post on Majhool narrators.

If someone still argues, then tell him to rest easy because we have a Mut’abe1 of this narration, and as we have it, the whole argument is pointless.

3rd chain of this narration is as:

(Taarekh e Baghdad : vol13 : page 335, wa Isnaaduhu weak/daeef)

4th of this narration is as:

(Musnad e Abu Hanifa Lil Imam Talha with reference of Jaame ul Masaanid Lil Khuwaarazmi : vol1 : page18-19

in this 4th chain all narrators are THIQA except for Abul Abbas bin Saeed he is known as Ibn Uqda there’s Kalam on him and again, arguing would be pointless because we have another Mut’abe from a thiqa narrator, see below.

5th of chain is as:

Chain of narration:

Hafiz Abu Abdullah Ibn Khusro Rh. — > Hafiz Abul Fazl bin Khairoon Rh. — > Hafiz Abul Ali Hasan bin Ahmed Ibnil Hasan bin Shazaan Rh. — > Hafiz Abu Abdullah Ahmed bin Muhammed al A’allaaf Rh. — > Qazi Ibn ul Ush’naani Rh. — > Dawud bin Yahiya Rh. — > Ismaail bin Bahraam Rh. — > Asbaat bin Muhammed Rh. — > Imam Abu Hanifa Rh.

(Musnad e Imam e Azam Abu Hanifa from e Ibn Khusro : vol2 : page819, chain is HASSAN)

Tawtheeq of the narrators:

1. Ibn Khusro r.a THIQA Kitaab us Siqaat Lil Qaasim : vol3 : page 437, Siyar Alamin Nubula : vol19 : page592

2. Hafiz Abul Fazl THIQA Kitaab us Siqaat Lil Qaasim : vol1 : page309

3. Hafiz Abu Ali Hasan bin Ahmed Ibnil Hasan bin Shazaan 425 Hij. THIQA, SADOOQ. (Taarekh ul Islaam : vol9 : page406-407)

5. Qazi, Hafiz Umar Ibn ul Ush’naani 339 Hij.  THIQA  (Kitaab us Siqaat Lil Qaasim : vol7 : page 274-275)

8. Asbaat bin Muhammed 200 Hij. THIQA. (Taqreeb : number 320)

9. Imam abu hanifa, doesnt need any intros.

This same narration with this same narrators is also mentioned in Jaame ul Masaanid Lil Khuwaarazmi : vol1 : page 229 by Qadi Hafiz Umar Ibn ul Ush’naani 339 Hij.

In short, the chain of Asbaat bin Muhammad is at least HASAN grade narration and this proves that prophet Muhammad sallallaho aleh wasallm gave him the glad tidings of reviving the Sunnah Subhan ALLAH!!

We are NOT completely done yet, my readers I want to show you just how great Abu Hanifa r.a was, set aside all of the conspiracies from indian and Pakistan the whole muslim world takes him as a Thiqa muhaddith & greatest FAQIH. you must read below! I INSIST!

Here’s a Hadith:

Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: If the din were at the Pleiades, “EVEN THEN A PERSON FROM PERSIA” would have taken hold of it, or one amongst the Persian descent would have surely found it.

Imam Jalal ud-din as-Suyuti (rah) who is renowned to be Mujaddad of 9th century said of this hadith:

Translation: I say this hadith has Basharah (glad tiding) for Imam Abu Hanifa (Rahimahullah) [Tabiyiz as-Sahifa bi Manaqib Abi Hanifa, Page # 31-33]

Then he also said:

Translation: In this hadith is the “SAHIH ASAL” in regards to Basharah and Fadheelat of (Imam Abu Hanifa) and It is “RELIED UPON” just like previous (hadiths) are upon other Muhaditheen (i.e. Imam ash-Shafi and Imam Malik whom Imam Suyuti mentions too). This Sahih hadith makes distinction between the fabricated hadith in his regard (i.e. all false accusations on Imam Abu Hanifa are destroyed due to this hadith) [Tabiyiz as-Sahifa bi Manaqib Abi Hanifa, Page # 31-33]

Blessings of Hazarth Ali R.A

Translation: Isma‘il ibn Hammad ibn Abu Hanifah informed us, ‘Nu‘man ibn Thabit ibn al-Marzaban was from among the free people of Persia. I swear by Allah, we were never enslaved. My grandfather was born in the eightieth year. Thabit(Father of Abu Hanifa) went to ‘Ali when he was small and he prayed for barakah for him and his children(future). We hope to see Allah accept ‘Ali’s (may Allah be pleased with him) prayer for us…’
